Located on the main street of Cooma, the Alpine Hotel is a beautifully restored classic Australian art deco hotel with a history dating back to 1938. Our Story
The Alpine Hotel stands proudly on the main street of Cooma – Sharp Street – and has welcomed tired, hungry and thirsty travellers for over 80 years. Originally built as a Coach House Inn for Tooths Hotels, she opened in early 1939. The building itself was purpose built at the time with distinctive art-deco styling throughout, including chrome balustrades, ornate fire places and beautiful geometric cornices that you’d expect from the time. Externally, our heritage listed facade boasts distinct brick horizontal stressations, cantilevered awning, wrap-around balcony (now enclosed) and a distinctive spire and crest.

Improvements & Renovations
Like most working buildings, the Alpine Hotel has undergone a number of modifications through the years, with the addition of our main function room, the enclosing of a balcony overlooking Sharp Street to create our Balcony Bar and the addition of extra accommodation. In 2005, the main bar was sympathetically renovated; making it more open and accessible. Thankfully, great care was taken to preserve the period features – including our very popular open fire places. In 2019, we once again began refurbishing; this time focusing on our hotel accommodation. With 27 rooms to complete, this will, understandably, take us several seasons to complete but will mean our guest can enjoy the best accommodation in the Snowy Region.
Photographic Collection
We are lucky enough to have a small collection of photographic prints that have been taken at various points throughout the Alpine Hotel’s history – including some from the original Snowy Hydro project. These print are displayed throughout the hotel and give a unique perspective on the history of our hotel and that of our region.

Dining at the Alpine Hotel is a relaxed affair, with our Executive Chef and her amazing team serving some of the best meals in the Snowy region. At lunchtime, we offer a range of hearty burgers and family favourites for you to enjoy from our bistro. For dinner, we offer a selection of modern Australian dishes, succulent steaks and pub classics from our bistro or in our licensed a-la-carte restaurant – complete with wood-burning fire. We also offer vegan and vegetarian options as well as weekly specials that show-case seasonal produce and flavours from around the world.
It’s still cold outside, despite the change of seasons, so we’re serving up some of the best comfort food in the Snowy’s. Our 2024 menu features incredible food, from seasonal specials to the pub classics we’re famous for!

We have 27 suites and rooms in total, split across 2 floors, and all come with clean, fresh bed linen and towels so you can relax and enjoy your stay with us from the moment you arrive.
